Vietnamese shrimp farmers form alliance, seek Seafood Watch green rating

Shrimp farmers in Ca Mau province, on the southernmost tip of Vietnam, have formed an alliance to produce sustainably sourced and organically raised shrimp, the Vietnamese publication Vietfish reports.

The group organized its efforts at a meeting on June 17 with the help of Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and a private sector development committee, according to the publication. 

Josh Madeira, Seafood Watch’s senior manager of ocean conservation policy, reportedly advised suppliers on how to obtain a "green" rating, telling them that they must satisfy legal, feed, traceability and environmental standards.
